Redevelopment of the North Stand at Accrington Stanley F.C. – CDM Principal Designer appointment

RJD Associates (North West) Limited have been appointed as CDM Principal Designer on a construction project involving the redevelopment of the North Stand at the Accrington Stanley F.C. Wham Stadium. The scope of works involves demolishing the existing Whinney Hill Terrace stand followed by the construction of a new North Stand along with associated external works. The new stand and roof canopy over will be designed by a specialist company and will be formed with rows of seating running the full length of the pitch along with areas for wheelchair users. A single storey structure will be constructed at the rear of the stand to provide ancillary facilities including male, female and wheelchair accessible toilets, hot food and drinks servery areas, a store and a plant room.

An external concourse area will be formed at the rear of the Stand, with stepped and ramped access from the concourse into the Stand at both ends. The scope of works also includes installing a palisade fence around the external concourse perimeter, installing a below ground stormwater storage tank beneath the concourse, forming stepped and ramped access to link the new North Stand to the William Dyer Electrical Stand (Clayton End) to the west, installing stadium lighting, constructing foul and surface water drainage systems and installing mains services.

Key health and safety considerations on this project include managing the overlap and associated interfaces between the construction site and the Club’s operations, traffic management, temporary works, managing the overlap with the adjacent land uses to ensure the amenity of adjoining residents is maintained, and preventing unauthorized access to the construction site. RJD Associates look forward to working alongside the project team to ensure a successful delivery of the scheme, and are pleased that supporters of Accrington Stanley F.C can look forward to watching League One football from the stand next season following their outstanding efforts in winning promotion from League Two in 2017-2018.
