RJD Associates (North West) Limited have been appointed as the CDM Principal Designer on a construction project involving alterations & extensions to form KFC and Costa Coffee restaurants within a former public house in Sheffield, together with associated external works to form drive-thru lanes and car parking. The site is located on the northeast side of the crossroads formed by the A6135 Barnsley Road, Hatfield House Lane and Elm Lane in Sheffield Lane Top, a suburb of Sheffield situated approximately 5km north of the city centre. The site is approximately 0.29 hectares in size and comprises the former Pheasant Inn, a car park that previously serviced the Inn and an area of wasteland attached to the car park.

The existing building is situated in the southwest corner of the site demise and is formed by single and two-storey sections in sandstone with red brick to the rear, a slate pitched roof over, mock Tudor timber-clad gables, decorative stonework and modern doubled-glazed windows. The car park is situated to the east of the existing building, with vehicular access into the site from Barnsley Road and Hatfield House Lane. The wasteland is situated to the north of the site, with a number of trees around its perimeter. Ground levels across the site are relatively flat as it is located at the top of a hill.

Key health and safety considerations on this project include managing the overlap and associated interfaces between the construction site and adjacent occupied areas, traffic management, temporary works, demolition works, groundworks and foundation construction, works to the existing structure, working on existing roof structures, erecting the structural steel frame, restricted working space and preventing unauthorised access to the construction site. RJD look forward to working alongside the project team to ensure a successful delivery of the scheme.
