RJD Associates (North West) Limited are pleased to announce that we have been appointed as CDM Principal Designer by Lovell Partnerships Limited on a project involving the demolition of Greenside Mills in Skelmanthorpe ahead of a residential redevelopment of the site that will be carried out as a separate project following completion of the demolition works. The scope of works includes an initial phase of site establishment and enabling works, asbestos removal, demolishing the existing Mill buildings and associated structures including a large brick chimney, protecting adjacent buildings and land uses, crushing materials to 6F2 as required and leaving the crushed materials in an agreed stockpile on site.
The existing structures comprise a series of largely single level traditional mill buildings with northlight roofs, 2no more modern large portal framed buildings, and a three-storey stone building at the entrance to the site from Saville Road, with external yards and associated circulation space including a yard at the site entrance. There is also a large brick chimney located roughly centrally within the site demise which has an associated boiler house along with storage tanks/silos positioned adjacent, and a small mill pond to the east of the main complex at the end of open scrub land that is traversed by overhead electric cables, with an electric substation also located within the site demise.
Key health and safety considerations on this project include the derelict condition of the existing structures, contact with live services, site clearance and enabling works including asbestos removal, managing the interfaces with the adjoining properties and land uses, sequencing the demolition of the existing structures including the existing brick chimney structure, preventing unauthorised access to the site and traffic management.
RJD Associates look forward to working alongside the project team during both the pre-construction and construction phases to ensure a successful delivery of the scheme.
